Building a High-resolution Digital Terrain Model of Bennu from Laser Altimetry Data

Abstract The Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft orbited the near-Earth asteroid (101955) Bennu to characterize prior sampling. One important aspect of this characterization was creation a high-resolution (5–7 cm) global shape model using OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA). We describe data collected by OLA, along with approach used register overlapping topography keypoints keypoint descriptors in order produce globally self-consistent set data. These registered sets topographic scans were generate digital terrain models at both regional scales. also efforts correct for change behavior scanning mirror after launch highlight improvements implementing an updated calibration mirror. resulting represents highest-fidelity OLA set.
